Growth Mindset: Beyond School

Throughout the class, I have been inspired by the Growth Mindset Assignments. I am always reading or searching for books and articles that have to do with self-improvement. Learning how to be my best self is something that brings me confidence, and it is also a great stress-reliever.

This topic, Beyond School, is a great topic to write about; I have always thought of starting a blog myself, and these types of lessons are what I would post about.

Growing in the classroom is taught by so many professors at OU. This is the first class I have been in that this concept has a name: "Growth Mindset." However, the principle is the same. In college, students must push themselves farther than they think is possible in order to learn the most and apply what they have learned to their future. For example, even though I will probably not use any ancient Indian literature after this class in a career, I have learned great skills as far as active reading, writing, and how to use a blag.

Now, I can focus on how the Growth Mindset affect other parts of my life outside of academics. Overall, I believe I have a few: studying for the LSAT, having lots of self-discipline, my health and pushing myself to work out, but I want to focus on my job.

After I graduate and look back at my time at OU, I definitely will say that being an OU Tour Guide was my favorite thing I participated in. It is a very important job for recruiting prospective students, so it also comes with a lot of areas to grow. I must approach each tour with a growth mindset because I want to make the students' experiences the best that they can be.

One way I can do this is to learn from other guides; we all have very different strengths and ways of presenting the information, so there is always something to learn from them. I love seeing my friends give tours on campus because I will slip in the back and listen to their conversation with the students and parents. Another way I can grow as a tour guide is to mentally prepare myself for each work day. This job is exhausting (not to mention it is exhausting on top of taking classes and having many other responsibilities), so I reflect on my "why's" before I go out and meet my tour. This practice helps me grow because I remember the influence I have on these students.

I fell in love with my tour guide when I came to OU, and that is what I want to do for students on my tours!

  1. I really enjoyed this post. I have never thought about this approach with a growth mindset attitude until you put in this light. It is always important to make a learning experience out everything you can. Growth mindset is all about enjoying the process and taking pride in it. When you gain satisfaction from the journey, it helps you to achieve your fullest potential. Also, I think its great that you have learned to apply this attitude to your everyday tasks and ways of living. Great post!
