Story Planning: The Gambler (Week 9 )

Yudhishthira, The Gambler

Artwork that shows the dice game of Yudhishthira

-       Duryodhana is more and more jealous of King Y each time he succeeds in anything, especially when he became king
-       King Y likes to gamble and can never back down from a chalenge, so Duryodhana’s uncle advises him to get revenge by gambling against him. His uncle Shakuni is a very skilled gambler and wanted to make Yudhishthira lose everything he owned
-       He invites King Y and the Pandavas to a game of dice
-       King Y realizes he cannot beat Shakuni, but he still cannot turn down a game because of his addiction to gambling and pride to compete
-       King Y loses everything at the end of the game: he sold himself, Draupadi (his wife), and his brothers to slavery (The rest of the Pandavas)
-        The winners drag Draupadi to the throne room by her hair and tries to tear off her clothes, but the gods protect her by adding new clothes when her original ones are torn off
-       Bhima (one of the Pandavas who is also married to Draupadi) gets enraged and threatens to kill Duryodhana
-       Draupadi is granted a boon by Duryodhana, and she chooses to free Yudhishthira (this outrages Duryodhana)
-       Because he is so angry (because he , he challenges Yudhishthira to another game (and he agrees of course), and he lost and the Pandavas were exiled into the forest for 12 years

-    The second time he gambled, he lost his entire kingdom and was forced into exile for 13 years
-    Although he lost everything during the first game, somehow he still played the second game and lost his kingdom again.
-    He is seen as one of the Protagonists and heroes of the Mahabharata, but obviously his pride and gambling is a very large fault

I want to write story about a man in Oklahoma who is one of the most successful businessmen in the U.S., but he has a gambling problem. He is brilliant and everyone sees him as such a generous and honest man, but he hides this demon of gambling by traveling to a casino every thursday. During that time, he loses his money and gains it all back the next week. One day, one of his coworkers find out and want to steal his position in his company, so he meets him at the casino. He hires a professional poker player and he counts cards to beat the businessman and he loses everything he owns.
